RESTORE MARINE ECOSYSTEMS,

TPS HARVESTING 10 THOUSAND MANGROVE SEEDS

Surabaya (21/3) – Today (21/3), the Surabaya Container Terminal (TPS) extended family, commonly called TPS Familia, enthusiastically participated in the harvest of 10 thousand mangrove or mangrove seedlings, as well as planting some of these seeds in the mangrove area TPS.

The main director of TPS, Wahyu Widodo, who took part in the seed harvest program, said that mangrove harvests would be prioritized outside the TPS area.

"Today we will harvest 10,000 mangrove seedlings, but what we will plant in the TPS mangrove area is only 1,000 seedlings, the rest we will invite friends from the Pelindo Group and the Pelindo Terminal Container Subholding (SPTP) to plant together in the mangrove area. outside TPS as a form of collaboration and synergy.” said the man who is familiarly called WW.

In collaboration with the Surabaya Wonorejo Mangrove Farmers Group in terms of ecosystem management and mangrove nurseries, this program has been implemented since September 2022 by optimizing the mangrove area which is on the west side of the connecting bridge between the dump yard and the TPS jetty.

Wahyu also revealed that TPS wants to make its mangrove area a center for mangrove nurseries and cultivation which will later be able to support the need for mangrove seedlings for mangrove planting activities organized by the Pelindo Group, as well as SPTP as the Head, the general public, so that the value of its benefits can expand.

"This is the first time we have cultivated mangroves, and Alhamdulillah it was successful, so it is possible that this program will continue." Said Wahyu.

Mangrove restoration activities at TPS are in line with the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program for structuring marine and coastal ecosystems as part of the environmental pillar in an effort to restore mangrove ecosystems.

Previously, TPS also carried out various similar activities that were oriented towards the environment, namely the planting of a thousand trees program, where currently 440 trees have been planted spread across the TPS area with various types of trees, one of which is the tabebuya tree that has been planted the most.

"Lots of trees, lots of oxygen, we want to get rid of the impression of a hot and arid port, in line with the TPS sustainable port program which is the focus of TPS ahead of next month's anniversary," Wahyu added.

TPS's commitment to participate in nature and environmental conservation efforts is in line with the mandate of East Java Provincial Regulation Number 1 of 2018 concerning Zoning Plans for Coastal Areas and Small Islands of East Java Province Year 2018-2038 concerning port zone development strategies that synergize port zones with other utilization areas such as conservation areas and sea lanes, considering that the TPS business is in the maritime sector.
